The Girlhood of Shakespeare’s Heroine’s by Mary Cowden Clarke (who edited the H.C Selous edition alongside her husband Charles), was originally published between 1850 and 1852 in three parts. This ‘new’ single edition, ‘condensed’ by Mary’s sister, Sabilla Novello, from 1880, features nine illustrations in ‘permanent photography’ of the key women from Shakespeare’s work.
